GIVEAWAY {Cutting Edge Stencils}

Ever since I saw these beautiful images, I’ve been obsessed with stenciling a wall in our home.

Good Girl Gone Glad

Stenciling makes such a big impact in a room without the fuss, expense, and permanence of wall paper.  But, I worried that my wall would turn out terribly, so I hesitated to try one.  When Cutting Edge Stencils offered to send me a stencil, however, I decided to take the plunge.

I browsed their website and found so many darling stencil patterns.

But, in the end, I decided to do something I hadn’t really seen before, and chose the Georgian Ceiling Medallion Stencil.  I thought this would be a good first choice since it wouldn’t cover an entire wall (if I messed it up!) and I could do it pretty quickly- since time is not my friend these days:)

image

The perfect spot for my medallion would be surrounding the new light fixture in my office.  You’ll recall I did have an ugly brown fan (yes, I know I chose it!), but it’s since been replaced with a chandelier from Overstock.

image

Like the directions on the stencil suggested, I practiced on a sample stencil first in my garage (sorry honey!), also trying different paint colors.

image

After feeling like I got the technique down, it was on to the real deal.  Since I was affixing the stencil to the ceiling, I used spray adhesive on the back of the stencil as well as tape.  The hardest part was getting the placement of the stencil perfect and adhering it to the ceiling.  I did the first half alone- my mistake!  Once the stencil was in place, rolling on the paint took about 10 minutes.

image image

The next day, I enlisted help to get the other half of the stencil up on the ceiling- this stencil comes in a half moon shape.  (Yeah- I’m still wearing my visor from the morning jog.  When the baby’s asleep, there’s no time to waste!)

image

And here is the finished result.

image

As you can see in this photo with the flash, my paint is a little uneven as it’s darker in some places and lighter in others.  That can be cured by using the same amount of pressure and paint throughout the process.  I used silver metallic craft paint by Folk Art, recommended to me by Decor Chick.
